run for your heart
by Kevin Neal
After having a new heart valve last summer, I was delighted to be invited by the British Heart Foundation to do a 5km run in September last year. The run was in October at our local racecourse - I was to do 5km around the track, other more serious runners were to run the track, a road run, and then the track again. No one told me how big the race track was so I kept running around it along with some walkers with sticks and dogs. I continued the run until other runners came and continued the track run. I didn't know until later that they had all done the road run as well!! So I had done much much more than I was expected to. I was thrilled, and more thankful than ever to the doctors at the New Cross Heart and Lung Centre, who gave me back my life...once more I thank them.
