If you're looking to find your nearest lido in the UK for a spot of outdoor swimming, we've collated some of the most popular swimming UK lidos and outdoor pools. And we surely don't need to tell you swimming is great cross training for runners. It can help you rehab from injury, plus get stronger and faster when training for an event.

What are the benefits of swimming in a lido?

Of course, when heading to a lido you're often swapping the luxuries of a heated swimming pool for a much colder dip. But there are benefits for runners, with recent studies finding swimming in colder water to have a positive effect on the immune system and symptoms of depression and dementia. What's more, if you're training for a triathlon, it's a good way to get used to the colder temperatures you're likely to experience on race day.

Should I wear a wetsuit when swimming in a lido?

Most lidos are open all year round, so some swimmers opt to wear a wetsuit when swimming in their local lido in winter months, however often this is purely down to personal preference - and of course water temperature. If you need help choosing, see our round-up of the best wetsuits.
