With just over a week to go before the Cardiff half marathon, here’s all the essential information on the event.

When is the Cardiff half marathon?

The Cardiff Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 6 October.

What time does the race start?

The race has a staggered start to ensure all runners cross the start line as safely as possible. The White, Green and Red start is at 10am. The Blue and Yellow start is at 10:10am. However, organisers are encouraging runners to arrive at the race in good time. For reference, the baggage tents open 8:30am and close shortly after 9am.

What is the route for the Cardiff half?

The route can be accessed at the event website. It is all on roads.

Where does the race start and finish?

The race starts outside Cardiff Castle and runners then head down past Cardiff City Stadium on the way to Penarth. They take in the glorious Penarth Marina before crossing the barrage and heading to Cardiff Bay. Runners run right through the heart of the bay taking in the Norwegian Church and Wales Millennium Centre.

The course then heads towards the north of the city and runners will complete a loop of the beautiful Roath Park Lake before the grandstand finish in the heart of the city at the Civic Centre.

How many water stations will there be?

Brecon Carreg water will be available to runners around the course at four drink stations every 5K and at the finish. A Lucozade drink will also be provided at the 9-mile mark. High 5 energy gels will available at 6 miles. It is not recommended that you use a gel or energy drink on race day without prior use or experience.

What will the weather be like?

It looks like there’ll be a few showers on the day, with highs of 16C.

How can I get to the start line of the Cardiff half?

Car: A Park and Walk facility is being provided at the Cardiff City Football Stadium car park on Leckwith Road, Cardiff, CF11 8AZ. You pre-book your spot here. Runners are advised to explore all parking options within the city at www.en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/cardiff or www.cardiff.gov.uk, as well as road-side parking where safe and secure.

Train: Cardiff Central train station is a 10-minute walk from the Race Village.
